IODE Tantramar - Amherst NS

IODE Tantramar chapter was organized as a Primary chapter on January 11, 1916 under the guidance of Mrs. D.A. Morrison, Regent of the Lord Amherst Chapter. A full slate of officers was elected at the first meeting. Their motto was "Sampar Patatus" Latin for "Always Ready".

IODE Tantramar Chapter meets the first Monday of the month at 7:30 pm at the First Baptist Church on Victoria Street in Amherst, Nova Scotia.
100th Anniversary Celebrations |

On May 25th IODE Tantramar members met a the First Baptist Church, Amherst, NS to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the founding of their Chapter. A "silver tea service luncheon" was held with the chapter members being smartly outfitted in period dresses along with hats and gloves comparable to what would have been worn in 1916. In that time period 100 years ago tea would be held on a Wednesday afternoon from 2pm - 4pm with the stores of the town being closed to partake in a quintessentially British tradition.
Greetings and best wishes were received from the Honourable Terry Farrell, Cumberland North MLA; IODE Canada; IODE Nova Scotia and many primary chapters across the province. President Wanda St. Peter asked the attending dignitaries and guests to take a minute to travel back in time to one hundred years ago and think about the feelings of excitement and pride felt by the women who united to form the Chapter on January 11th, 1916. Tantramar Chapter members graciously respects those founding women who faithfully served Monarchy and Canada. During the celebrations a corsage was presented to Maureen Reid, Tantramar's oldest member; Mrs. Reid will be one hundred years old this year.
