IODE Mary Lawson Chapter, Dartmouth NS

IODE Mary Lawson Chapter Bestowal Ceremony was held September 1962 at Penhorn School, Dartmouth. Thirteen members signed the Charter. The name "Mary Lawson" was chosen to honour the memory of a local author and poet best known for her book “History of Dartmouth, Preston and Lawrencetown” and a volume of poetry entitled “Frankincense and Myrrh”. In addition many of her poems and prose were published in Halifax newspapers and periodicals of the 19th Century. An elementary school in Dartmouth also bears her name.
